I'm delighted to share that I'm a co-sponsor of Alan Mak’s In-Person Banking Services Bill.
We had our fair share of difficulty with LINK’s outdated criteria here in East Surrey when battling to secure Oxted’s Banking Hub. With more and more bank branches closing down in rural communities, it’s clear the law needs changing.
This Bill would:
- Put face-to-face banking services on a statutory footing for the first time.
- Require the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to set minimum standards for in-person banking services and define a list of “essential services” to be included.
- Make every town/village with a population over 10,000 eligible for a Banking Hub. LINK must consider access to in-person banking not just access to cash.
This is the start of a great campaign, so let me know your views below.
