About Claire Coutinho

Claire Coutinho, 34,  is the Conservative MP for East Surrey.

She is a former banker who started her career at Merrill Lynch in emerging market equities. She also brings public sector expertise from roles in Education at KPMG and at the Centre for Social Justice, a think tank focused on solving the UK's most intractable social problems. 

In 2017 she quit her job in the City to work in Government to deliver Brexit. She most recently worked in the Treasury with Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid.

Claire comes from an NHS family - growing up she watched her parents serve their patients 24/7. From this stemmed a passion to support strong communities. She has been a lifelong charity supporter from the frontline working with disadvantaged teens and young carers to fundraising for inspirational organisations such as Age UK and the Jo Cox Foundation.
